OGUN is my newest Ancestral dance single and part of a new music series on the LIBERATEVILLAGE.COM app called YORUBA MUSIC. The series includes music that is inspiring me and connecting with me spiritually (including Babatunde Olatunji).
As I seek a deeper connection to The Ancestors for strength and creativity, I’ve tapped into the orishas from Yoruba religion, specifically SHANGO and OGUN.
These are both orishas that represent the HEALTHY WARRIOR that African men are being called to remember and heal within themselves. The protectors of the village and the vulnerable. OGUN has a resonance with me because he is not only responsible for war but also technology.
My passion for tech began at 8 years old when my father introduced me to programming and it’s been in my life ever since. As I’ve done a lot of work with my inner child, it feels good to be back making updates to an app that was pivotal for tens of thousands of people all over the world. I can feel OGUN’s presence as I pray to overcome shame to continue to use technology to help us HEAL and ORGANIZE.
With that I’m excited to share with #teamAndroid that we’re back on the Google Play Store!
This is particularly exciting for me because as we are rebuilding our community globally, we need to have this medicine accessible for the African Diaspora everywhere.
The invitation with the YORUBA MUSIC series within the app is to explore how the sounds activate your body. When there is pain or some type of noticeable physical sensation, a past emotional is being asked to be looked at. It’s your inner child, asking you to LISTEN.
Taking big abdominal breaths is one way to slow down and another is to dance!
Dance is a playful way to connect with The Ancestors for faith during these interesting times for us.
This moment is really asking us to heal the wounds from colonialism that separate us and UNITE.
To support the growth of the app and access a lot of premium content (updated every week to 2 weeks), you can become a $9.99 monthly subscriber within the app. You can also donate to our gofundme. https://www.gofundme.com/f/liberatevillage-healing-app
Since our last email, we’ve made several updates to the app including: many bug fixes, added ways to report/delete comments, and introduced HELP to easily communicate 1-on-1 with me for questions/feedback. As of right now the latest version of the app is 1.1.47 which you can now see on the Home. More updates on the way including notifications around community and content.
