Discover more from THE VILLAGE!
Unity.
It’s something I’ve been sitting with more and more.
As I’ve been actively exploring the integration of MONEY & PLAY, I’ve been asking the myself the following questions and welcome in your input, so it’s not just me in my own head 😵💫
How do you think we can get people of the African Diaspora to simply get along?
How do you think we can come together to fund our own liberation?
It’s the colonial conditioning to rely on archaic systems rooted in pain and fear.
These systems continuously have left the African Diaspora not even in the rear view mirror.
I believe if we want to see the world for ourselves and our children, we have to create it.
We have to move beyond the trauma of looking to them to be our savior.
Even with my own european ancestry, I cannot trust this lineage at all to protect the future safety of my African mother (born of Dominican Republic 🇩🇴).
As I embody the healthy son archetype, I know it’s my responsibility as a man to protect her and take care of her.
It’s my turn now to use my actions as an expression of gratitude for her heart for me and the world.
It wasn’t always like this.
Last year for 6 months, I blocked her.
We had what I call a rupture in the relationship after I publicly started talking about the sexual abuse I experienced in my childhood (which A LOT of Black men experience and I believe one of the major reasons there is such a big masculine and feminine wound).
For the both of us, that period of separation was a time of grief.
I had time to really sit with the experience of her own little girl inside and cry for that little girl, which helped me to develop more empathy.
She also had time to become aware that I am no longer an 8-year-old little boy.
I am a man.
One of the reasons why we don’t see Black men standing up for Black women more is because we forgot how to roar.
Because we had physically and emotionally absent fathers as children, we were not given our rites of passage as men into the village, which is A CRITICAL part of the psychological and emotional development of a male.
An African male.
Why do I say all of this?
As I continue to do inner work around my relationship with my mother (it’s always a work in progress 🤣), I become more aware of the deep pain between Black men and women.
The way to unity is to heal these deep emotional wounds.
As we heal these wounds, the African family becomes stronger.
The African family is a child’s first village, and I would even go as far as to say THE VILLAGE.
The challenge is our relationships with our family members bring up so much damn pain - I’m talking to my fellow EMPATHS here.
Instead resisting them, we need to lean in.
Leaning in can look like separation for some time or working up the courage to speak your truth. It can also look like taking up my invitation for a free 30 min phone call which you can learn about below.
It is when we lean into our hearts that we remember our strength.
That first requires rest.
As I enter this next moon cycle, my Full Moon intentions are to continue to make space for more rest. In the rest I learn to trust my body.
With more trust in my body, I develop the embodiment that open the doors to new life-giving opportunities. MORE MONEY & PLAY!
Rest = Strength
Rest = Deeper intimacy with the body
Rest = Deeper connection with the Ancestors
Thank you for taking the space to read and giving even a like. It helps keep the inner fire lit and reminds me of my purpose as I continously navigate working with my shame.
What are your full moon intentions? Where was the resonance? Leave a comment!
P.S - I created a MONEY & PLAY Spotify playlist. If I see a few saves I’ll know it was supportive and can add to it.
This is a free post and I’ve now added a paid subscription where I will create more specific content for people who are interested in investing in village preservation. Even though I’m already doing free 30 minute phone calls (which have been life-giving), a paid subscription also unlocks a call with me that is optional - so potentially two free calls! I’m always listening to how I can better serve your healing journey. For the calls, please reach out to me at https://www.heru.cx/contact
