Like most humans, I think about money a lot.
Yes how can I attain more and at the same time, what is my relationship to it?
How does my own healing journey of remembering my humanity integrate with money?
How has my philosophy on money changed over time as I re-indigenize my mind, body, and heart?
These are questions I go deep on in a 25-minute video and to give you a summary, I call my transformation self-preservation to village-preservation.
Yes, we have to take care of ourselves and also the opportunity I believe for all of us is to reflect more about how our allocating and spending of money impacts the next 7 generations.
It’s a tender topic for us all and I believe the most for Black folks.
At some point in our lineage our Ancestors were treated as a commodity.
We still carry this pain and sensitivity in our hearts.
This trauma keeps myself and us in a state of confusion around money and confusion is a trauma response.
How do I make money that feels good in my body and playful?
How do I spend money that feels good in my body and playful?
This is an individual question to answer and also one for us to answer as a human collective.
Though I don’t have the definitive answer, I can only share the teachings I have received and remembered that have supported my own mental health journey.
When we invest in our own inner child’s play, a big shift begins to happen.
We feel more alive and our creativity awakens.
We become more connected to The Creator by becoming more aware of how powerful we actually are.
We become more aware of how critical it is right now that for ourselves and the other relationships in our lives, we create more containers of play. Especially for the current youth.
This is why I repeat in my newest single IN THE COFFIN , “Every kid should know they can glow”. I also say “For their innocence I get physical”, because we achieve more states of play by setting stronger boundaries - this is channeling anger in a healthy way. Your mental health is more important than other peoples’ feelings.
This is an invitation to let your inner child glow more this week. (Full moon vibes).
As I figure out a more sustainable business model for the evolution of the village, what would be most supportive is sharing in the comments, how much you would pay a month and what would you want to see from me for that?
Play in that question.
What would be most supportive for your healing journey with play?
If any of this resonated, I would recommend watching the full 25-minute video. I share my heart at times and get teary-eyed. As these vulnerable moments appear, notice what happens in your own body.
The way to heal our relationship to money begins with the body. Feeling where there is the most tension and feeling the heart. Your heart will guide you to the answers.
Some good questions to work with are:
Am I tired in my body from seeking approval from others?
How much of what I am spending is for approval for others rather than my own self care?
What did I use to do when I was child that I would completely forget about time?
Can I allocate some of my budget or spending towards remembering and building on that hobby (painting, singing, etc..)?
