Discover more from THE VILLAGE!
I’ve been noticing my energy coming back as I come out of a pretty big grief ceremony.
Even though I feel like I’m at 25% right now energetically, I know I’m in groove when I’m making music.
The more people reach out and the more people subscribe, the more I feel resourced.
The more I feel resourced, the louder my roar gets.
While in this stuck period of what I call "the anointing before the attention”, I create music as a way of actualizing my dreams for us as the African Diaspora (at least the ones that want to WAKE UP because some of ya’ll won’t heal your white savior complex in this lifetime - not me).
Music is prayer for me.
When I produce music it’s me dancing with THE DIVINE MOTHER.
It’s my call for help, for more resources to actually make this dream a reality.
THE SONG
As being apart of this village you get an early listen of “THE CONNECTION” and if you like it you can pre-save it so it will be added to your Spotify library as soon as it’s released here - https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/heru7/the-connection
I’ll share more about the creative process behind the song when it’s released June 19th!
THE COVER ART
In thinking about the cover art there were two things that were central to me.
First that there was someone DANCING and second, that someone was an AFRICAN QUEEN.
Dance has been sacred in my own life.
Growing up it was my way of wanting to be like my dad.
Julio senior was a famous breakdancer and DJ in NYC (the original “FLEX” b-boy and the original DJ “FLEX” - if you knew of him please let me know 🤣) before he sold everything and bought the first macintosh.
As every young boy desires to be just like their Dad and with staring at Michael Jackson perform for hours, I taught myself a lot of hip hop dance.
DANCE is a sacred form of self-expression and really a prayer.
A prayer to the divine for more freedom to just BE
A prayer to the divine to keep my heart open to the BLESSINGS that are on the way.
Even though I’m in a massive grief ceremony, I sincerely believe life is not meant to be such a fucking struggle everyday.
It’s meant to be a playground and this is what I hold onto in my relationship with The Creator.
Watch me play into restoring THE VILLAGE!
It was also important to me to use the image of an African Queen with a connection to Spirit (midjourney helped here), because we live in a world of patriarchy that sees the most powerful spiritual being as the biggest threat.
You want to know the real reason why the world does not value and protect Black and African women? Christianity.
I’m not going to go too hard on this just yet but The Original Trinity had AUSET (aka ISIS) as the top. An African Mother was the center of Auser / Osiris (the African Father) and Heru / Horus (The African child).
She is central to the story of how Heru avenges his father’s death and defeats Set (evil, illusion, hate, white-supremacy maybe? lol).
You can see this original story appropriated in entertainment such as Star Wars, The Matrix, and even in a lot of the modern day religions that DIVIDE us.
When the colonizers came into KEMET, they removed the Mother from the trinity.
We don’t see Black and African woman as sacred anymore because of the impacts of a White Savior on the African psyche.
What if we prayed to an African mother as an aspect of The Most High?
What if we referred to God as Her instead of Him?
My hope is that when women see this image they remember their connection to their true Mother! YA’LL ARE GODDESSES!
