We’ve been covering a little about the life of Marcus Garvey who was the most influential organizer of the African Diaspora and is considered the father of modern Pan-Africanism.

He founded along with his second wife, Amy Jacques Garvey, the UNIA which by 1919 had 30 branches and over 2 million members without the use of religion and claiming himself as a prophet.

What does Marcus Garvey have to do with healing?

Meditation (which originated in Africa - Kemet) is one way to slow the mind and be able to look at your thoughts and begin to easily identify your inner colonizer. Ways in which the white european shame has been passed down to you.

Meditation is effective and really the beginning of the journey of self-love.

To love your Black (and really African) identity, you also have to educate yourself on our revolutionary heritage. (This also helps with breaking out of the european individualism we suffer from dearly).

Men and Women who have put their lives on the line to remind us of our history.

Those who reminded us to be proud of our skin color and motherland.

A lot of Black people don’t like to identify with their African identity because of the conditioning of slavery and colonialism.

I will admit myself before owning my African ancestry, I never thought highly of the continent and that has been my spiritual path.

Garvey & Rastafarians

Marcus Garvey had a big influence on Rastafarians, the most famous being Bob Marley

In “Redemption Song”, Bob Marley included words from a Marcus Garvey speech into his lyrics.

Yesterday, I went to a Marcus Garvey Music Festival mostly consisting of Reggae.

I was moved when I heard Proud To Be An African by Di Ras

Listen on The Liberate App

Reggae is one areas of music I want to build out more into the LIBERATEVILLAGE.COM healing app and I’ve been connecting with Rastafarians down here in the Florida area to stay tuned!

Meditation is a great way to heal and isn’t it more playful to become empowered by who you look into the mirror with music? Something to dance and sing too.

This is actually doing something to your psyche as you continue to listen to content that empowers you.

My hope is that organizers rise out of the platform and we build features into the app that will help us organize together.

If we’re going to create the kind of cultural shift that makes this world safer for not only us but the children, we have to learn how to trust each other.
