integrating MONEY & PLAY 💵🏀
a relationship with MONEY where it feels completely like PLAY.
that is our African ancestors’ wildest dreams for you and I.
These are the words that stick out in my latest single called MONEY & PLAY (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube).
As with every song, when I’m nearing the finish line of the production process I start thinking about a main image or visual expression of the medicine.
Mansa Musa (the richest human in history happens to be an African King) came through. As I have been navigating some deep shame around money I had to break out of this colonial consciousness into something empowering so I developed this playful practice for myself.
When I feel the shame around money, I slow down and ask myself - “How did Mansa Musa move through the world?”
Then play in that. Talk like him. Walk like him. Fix my body posture to be more upright and look up when I’m walking around white people in my neighborhood.
African women please replace Mansa Musa with someone like Cleopatra if that helps (also watching the Netflix series will help x10 with this). The African Mother is the most powerful spiritual being after all!
What made Mansa Musa travel from city to city giving away tons of money - so much that he stabilized economic systems and made them more equitable?
I want to be able to have that impact on the world for the next 7 generations and also have it be pleasurable and playful.
When we allow ourselves to play more, we create more, and then in return The Creator mirrors back how powerful we really are.
We also model to the youth that life is worth living even with all the pain we experience as Africans.
Creating from your heart and getting flowers for the vulnerability is a powerful cycle of feedback that heals trauma and generational pain. This is what the Liberate community continues to do for me which is why I go so hard for village creation.
With that, I can no longer give away everything for free as I have been doing.

I use to be in an intimate coaching program where a handful of powerful women were generating more than $100k each month doing what they love. Yes they were white but I believe that’s possible for us too.
In activism we separate the two. You have to be a martyr if you will be for the people. That is colonialism at its best on our liberation movements. This belief that burns out everyone who tries to liberate our people. When we rest in our hearts we rest in the abundance of the village. The Ancestral magic that happens when we bring our creativity and resources together.
We have to feel more empowered with using whatever we have towards creating more space for rest and play. That is the only way our mental health will sustain long enough for us to really LIVE.
